Mercury Cookers

Mercury range cookers was a part of the commercial manufacturer Lincat until, in 2009, the Mercury division that made high end desgner range cookers sold the domestic appliance division to AGA Rangemaster.

Mercury range cookers brand logoSince the company was taken over by AGA we have noticed that the Thermastone cooker has vanished and that there have been several changes made to the original Mercury cooker. Whether this is better or worse is not yet known. The range has also been expanded.

The general look of the original Mercury range cooker has been retained with the "Hi-Fi_ style control knobs and handles as well as general aesthetic but, behind that there appear to have been many changes which have left us rather disappointed. Gone is the full width storage drawer at the bottom, gone are the "cattle grid burner stands and the chasis appears to be no more than a normal Rangemaster one. We expect that all these changes have been made to save on production costs but, it's just not the same and we can't help but feel that the price now seems a bit high for what looks to be, basically, a funked up Rangemaster.

Don't get us wrong, the Rangemaster cookers are really good and we highly recommend them but, they aren't a Lincat made Mercury which was a range cooker that was bordering on performance reserved for restaurants given the Lincat heritage.

  Mercury Service

Now provided by Rangemaster and as with all Rangemaster products service support is excellent.

No issues with technical support and information to the independent trade and few should have fear of repairing a Mercury range cooker.

Older models did require some specialist tools for the knobs but, other than that, they are fairly straightforward and the cookers were supplied with full manuals with details of how to access and change any spare parts whilst the brand was owned by Lincat, we loved that too.

  Mercury Spare Parts

So far, not too many problems other than for older models whcih can be a big problem. Parts for Thermastone and the old RC1100 etc are incredibly hard to come by and often ludicrously expensive when you can get them

There may be some issues with older spares for cookers before Rangemaster's ownership but, from that point onwards there is no issues at all of any note that we are aware of. As with other AGA Rangemaster brands, we would also expect spares to be extremely well priced and widely available.

Our advice, avoid this one!
Mercury was brilliant, utterly superb actually but now, it's just an over-priced Rangemaster with fancy knobs

Mercury Spare Parts
Hi Jo,

Sadly virtually all the spare parts for the older Mercury cookers are virtually obsolete, that grill element is such a case in that it is completely unavailable presently.
