The AEG washing machines and washer dryers that these error codes relate to those that use what they call the "EWM2000evo" and AEG Nexxxt display boards and it's these fault codes that we will cover in this article. These are some of the most common fault codes for AEG washing machine models as well as other Electrolux Group produced brands such as AEG, Arthur Martin, Tricity Bendix, John Lewis and Electrolux obviously.
If these fault codes apply to your machine is should have a facia panel on it like one of those shown below, there are fifteen known variants covering quite literally hundreds of different models sold in the UK and across the EU.

The error code is displayed as a digital code, exactly as you will see below, you will get a blinking or flashing light on the front of the washing machine.
If it is the latter then you will see a pattern to the flashes if you look closely it will be a series of rapid flashes followed by a pause and then the series of flashes will be repeated, this is the error code being displayed. If you count the number of flashes being given then you use that number to correspond to the fault code, for example, ten flashes would be fault code A, but we will explain how to read the fault code.
Against a number of the fault codes for these machines you will see that we recommend that you get an appliance engineer to do it and that it isn't a DIY repair. The reason for this is that in oder to replace many of these electronic modules it is required that the board is programmed and this is beyond the scope of a DIY repair as well as most unskilled people not involved in appliance repairs.
It is also the case that reprogramming these boards can be model specific, due to the particular features used on that washing machine or washer dryer and that incorrect installation and programming will result in a dead board. Due to the high risk of people programming the replacement board incorrectly we will not offer instructions to the general public on how to carry this out, apart from which Electrolux might get a bit upset if we did.
Most of our approved repairers and all Service Force agents will be able to carry out these sorts of repairs for you at a reasonable cost.
If they make a mistake they have to pay for a replacement board, if you make a mistake then it would be you paying for it and it's not worth the risk.

These fault codes are written for washing machine repairers and not for the general public by Electrolux and UK Whitegoods and they assume a certain level of competence on the part of the user in diagnostic routines. We have added some notes to try to assist you in determining the nature of the fault you have but, you will still need to investigate each failure on its own merits. The EWM2000 PCB is used on the AEG machines and there is very probably a huge crossover in the information between these two.

Tacho coil on the motor is most probably faulty. This coil reads a magnet as the motor turns to detect the speed that the motor is spinning at and this in turn allows the electronic controller to set the motor to revolve at different speeds for the various program options.

We have deliberately not given links to any spares in this article and, as you may suspect from this guidance, with very good reason.
Zanussi, AEG, Tricity Bendix and all other Electrolux Group appliances are found using two key pieces of information, what the part is and the PNC number from the rating plate. We can often find them from the model number because we can eliminate multiple instances on occasion and, we know what we're looking at and for, you often won't. But, even with our knowledge even we will often need the PNC code to identify the machine correctly and, accordingly, the spares required.
Our advice is very simple, don't guess at it and end up with the wrong parts, contact us from this link and check that you are ordering the correct spares.
