LG Washing Machine Fault Codes

These are the most common fault or error codes used in LG washing machines and washer dryers and most of them use the same fault or error codes when they have a problem or a spare part fails.

These fault codes for LG washing machine and washer dryer models will displayed as a digital code, exactly as you will see below, in an LED or LCD panel or display on the front of the washing machine or washer dryer.

Before you start any investigation of the fault or even remove the lid of the washing machine or washer dryer please read and fully understand this article in full and pay particular attention to the safety and information notices at the bottom of this page as they contain extremely important information!

Please remember to support our site by buying LG spares from our spare part store here and, if you decide that you really need an engineer please support the local repairers that help make this site possible, you can search for a repairer from this link.

LG Washing Machine Fault Codes

Like other fault codes these written for washing machine repairers and not for the general public by LG and they assume a certain level of competence on the part of the user in diagnostic routines. We have added some notes to try to assist you in determining the nature of the fault you have but, you will still need to investigate each failure on its own merits. For more help and advice on fault finding on a washing machine please refer to our basic fault finding guide from this link before you begin.

Please check that any LG washing machine spares recommended are suitable for use on your particular model and production code or serial number. If you are unsure about the suitability of any spare part please ask to ensure that you get the correct spares for your washing machine. Please, don't guess or assume as spares can be altered on a production run with the same model number having several different alternative components used.

CL Child lock engaged
Release child lock function to resume normal operation

To disengage child lock hold down temperature and eco/rapid together for a few seconds to set and unset the child lock function.

OE Drain pump blocked or obstructed
Drain pump faulty
Failure to drain

This fault code can mean that the pump is faulty as well as blocked, first of all check for a blockage and, if none is found then the likelihood is that the drain pump is faulty. Should you need it, the most common drain pump used on LG washers and washer dryers is this one.

On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for 800, 500 and No Spin being lit or flashing.

IE No water inlet
Inlet valve faulty
No water supply

Essentially this error code is telling you that, for some reason, there is no water being detected filling into the washing machine. The most likely cause of that would be a water valve failure, commonly used water valves for LG can be found here.

On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for Pre & Main being lit or flashing.

dE Door open can also be displayed as "dOE"
Door lock faulty
Door hook not engaged

Very simple error, the fault code indicates that either the door is indeed open or that the door lock or door interlock mechanism cannot inform the electronics that the door is properly closed. LG door locks are known to and do commonly fail, the common one used in most LG washing machines and washer dryers can be found here with a link to a lower cost alternative part. However the door handle (can be found here) is also a common source of trouble and, if the catch doesn't engage into the lock properly you will get this fault code being displayed.

On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the light for the door lock being lit or flashing.

UE Out of balance
Reload machine and attempt to spin again

This error code is more for information purposes than actually a fault as such. What the machine is telling you is that it has been unable to sort the laundry load and correctly spin without a risk of damage due to an unbalanced load. This error will clear when you restart the machine but do sort the laundry reduce or increase the load as required and for more information on load imbalances please see this article.

On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 being lit or flashing.

SE Motor fault
Can also be caused by be main PCB

This is not a good fault code to see as it will generally be correct and either the motor or the main electronic control PCB is faulty.

CE Current error
Can be a short circuit to motor or PCB

This can be caused by a fault on your home electrics and, if that is the case then you will need an electrician to check your house wiring for any abnormality.

LE Door lock fault

See fault code "DE" above as the same information applies to this error code.

FE Overfilling

This error code can be caused by overfoaming which is a result of overloading (see this article) or by overdosing or, incorrect detergent as the pressure sensor will falsely read that there is too much water in the machine.

Also check the pressure sensor and that the machine has not actually overfilled with water.

On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for synthetic, wool, blanket or pre and main being lit or flashing.

tE Thermistor or element fault
Check water heating element for circuit
Check thermistor

For this you need to check both the heater and thermistor, basically the machine is reporting a fault on the heating circuit with this fault code but it is not capable of identifying exactly where the fault actually lies.

On non-display panel models this fault code is denoted by the lights for 95, 60, 40 and cold being lit or flashing.

PE Pressure switch fault

This fault code is fairly self-explanatory and tells you that the machine has detected an error with the pressure sensor or pressure switch. It is rare to see this error code on LG washers.

On non-display panel models this fault code can be shown by the lights for fuzzy, heating and speedy or super, normal and hold being lit or flashing.

Other Common LG Washing Machine Faults

Other common faults that we see a lot on LG washing machines are:

Soap dispenser leaking: this is fairly common and usually you will get water running down the front of the washing machine because the dispenser case is faulty. The most common one used is this one.

Drive belts fail on the non-Direct Drive models and you can find those here.

LG washing machine bearings do fail on both Direct Drive and indirect drive models and many fail on or around the five year old mark. Replacement bearings and seals can be found here but this is a repair that we would advise it best to get one of our recommended engineers to do as it can be a bit daunting to do.

Also, door seals or gaskets seem to be an issue on LG washers, you can find door seals here.

On the whole the electronics seem okay in the LG machines but, when they do fail they can be expensive to replace. Not so nicely LG encase the actual PCB in resin within a holder for the module so no repairs to the actual module itself are possible, you can only replace it.

More LG Washing Machine Help, Advice & Guidance

Should you need more help and guidance please use the links from this article as most of them will help you to understand your LG washing machine or washer dryer a lot better and probably very much help you in diagnosing the fault you have. Of course there are many other articles on the site that will also help you do this.

In addition you can post in our help and advice forums after registering but please do pay heed to the information below before doing so and read the guides, they are there to help you. But if you are in any doubt at all or don't think you are up to diagnosing the fault yourself please click here to find a local washing machine engineer.

You must understand certain things before you begin or attempt any repairs on your own and we want to make these points very, very clear to anyone that decides to investigate one of these or any other washing machines:

  • We are not responsible for your safety, you are and by using this guide you accept that and accept that any damage that you may cause and work undertaken is entirely at your own risk.
  • We will advise the common causes of the fault codes but we cannot guarantee that any parts or work recommended will resolve the issue. It is entirely your responsibility to diagnose your particular problem and resolve it.
  • We are not responsible for you buying spares that do not resolve the problem, this is down to your own diagnosis not ours.
  • No warranty is inferred, implied or given.
You also have to understand that fault or error codes are not a "magic bullet", they will not tell you what the problem is, they will only offer you an indication of where the problem lies and they are no substitute for good old fashioned diagnostic skills. You can find out more about what fault codes actually tell you in this article. So please be well aware that, even with this new found knowledge you will still have to actually be capable of investigating and diagnosing the problem and this means adhering to basic appliance safety for working on them. As, if you don't and tell the engineers in the forums that you hooked up components to a live feed, worked on a live appliance and so on they will be a whole heap less willing to help you in our washing machine forums because they will assume that you are trying to commit suicide and are not safe working on your machine.

Please do note that manufacturers can and do change fault codes without notice and we cannot guarantee that these error codes will apply to your particular model as all codes apply to a wide range of appliances and not normally any one specific model. To determine if these fault codes do apply to your particular LG washing machine or washer dryer model please post a request to confirm this in the forums.

Please note that LE is a lock error or what LG mean the motor isnt rotating could be a problem with the stator or something stuck in the drum stopping it from turning.
