These fault codes are displayed in the form of a binary code and used on many popular Indesit washing machine models. Whilst a lot of these Indesit fault codes look and are the same in many cases, there are subtle difference in some so please take the time to find the appropriate set for your Indesit washing machine.
The error codes here are used in Indesit washing machine models that have a model number starting with WIA but they may also relate to other models of Indesit produced washing machines.
Like other Indesit made washing machines, if there are no flashes or error code displayed but door lock LED is lit and washing machine fails to start then check door lock, motor heater and associated connections .
These washing machines will have no digital display therefore in order to read the fault condition you have to know what the lights on the washing machine represent as a numerical value then do a little arithmetic to determine the fault code. The lights on these machines should be as follows.
| Indication Light Or LED | Numerical Value |
|---|---|
| Spin indicator | 1 |
| Rinse indicator | 2 |
| Wash indicator | 4 |
| Spin option | 8 |
| Quick wash option | 16 |
What you do is simply look at which lights or LEDs are flashing and take the numerical value for each as shown above. Where there is more than one light flashing you add them up to get the error code being displayed.
For example, if the first two, spin and rinse lamps are flashing then you take their respective values, 1 and 2, add them together and you have fault condition F3.
These PCB's are often model specific, that is to say that they are dedicated to a particular model or range of model numbers that share the same basic features, do not take it for granted that because they all use the same fault or error code reporting system that they are all the same because they're not. It is also not the case that when it says that there's a communication error or suchlike that the electronic control board is faulty, if you choose to replace it you do so completely at your own risk.
The boards from Indesit will also often need to be programmed. This is done using a program on a laptop (that only Indesit has) or using a pre-loaded card that can be used with a special tool to flash the EEPROM in the washing machine or washer dryer. If you do not have access to either of those and your electronic control PCB needs changed, you will not be able to do it yourself unless you get someone to pre-configure the board for you. Trouble is, you only know if it's correct when you fit the replacement controller.
Most of our approved repairers will be able to carry out these sorts of repairs for you at a reasonable cost.

These fault codes are written for washing machine repairers and not for the general public by Indesit and they assume a certain level of competence on the part of the user in diagnostic routines. We have added some notes to try to assist you in determining the nature of the fault you have but, you will still need to investigate each failure on its own merits. For more help and advice on fault finding on a washing machine please refer to our basic fault finding guide from this link before you begin. We would also advise that you read our how to repair a washing machine article before beginning to repair your washing machine.
Please check that any Indesit washing machine spares recommended are suitable for use on your particular model and serial number. If you are unsure about the suitability of any spare part please ask to ensure that you get the correct spares for your washing machine or washer dryer. Please, don't guess or assume as spares can be altered on a production run with the same model number having several different alternative components used.

We have deliberately not given links to any Indesit spares in this article and, as you may suspect from this guidance, with very good reason.
Indesit Group appliances are found using two key pieces of information, what the washing machine model number is and the serial number from the rating plate. We can often find them from the model number because we can eliminate multiple instances on occasion and, we know what we're looking at and for, you often won't. But, even with our knowledge even we will often need the serial number or production code to identify the machine correctly and, accordingly, the spares required.
Our advice is very simple, don't guess at it and end up with the wrong parts, contact us from this link and check that you are ordering the correct Indesit spares.
Should you need more help and guidance please use the links from this article as most of them will help you to understand your Indesit washing machine a lot better and probably very much help you in diagnosing the fault you have. Of course there are many other articles on the site that will also help you do this.
In addition you can post in our help and advice forums after registering but please do pay heed to the information below before doing so and read the guides, they are there to help you.
You must understand certain things before you begin or attempt any repairs on your own and we want to make these points very, very clear to anyone that decides to investigate one of these or any other washing machines:
Please do note that manufacturers can and do change fault codes without notice and we cannot guarantee that these error codes will apply to your particular model as all codes apply to a wide range of appliances and not normally any one specific model. To determine if these fault codes do apply to your particular Indesit washing machine or washer dryer model please post a request to confirm this in the forums.
Buying spare parts for any washing machine or getting a service engineer can range from the simplest task in the world to one of the most daunting as you try to pick your way through model numbers, serial numbers, ranges and all sorts of information. We try to make this as simple as possible for you and take out any hassle but, sometimes, we know that we all need a little help from the experts.
