This set of fault codes for the Whirlpool Dreamspace range of washing machines with a digital display. These fault codes will not relate to other Whirlpool washing machine models as they will often have been produced in different factories using different electronics or by other manufacturers, please check carefully before using these fault codes.
Before you start any investigation of the fault or even remove the lid of the washing machine please read and fully understand this article in full and pay particular attention to the safety and information notices at the bottom of this page as they contain extremely important information!
Please remember to support our site by buying spares from our spare part store here and, if you decide that you really need an engineer please support the local repairers that help make this site possible, you can search for a repairer from this link.
These fault codes are written for washing machine repairers and not for the general public by Whirlpool and they assume a certain level of competence on the part of the user in diagnostic routines. We have added some notes to try to assist you in determining the nature of the fault you have but, you will still need to investigate each failure on its own merits. For more help and advice on fault finding on a washing machine please refer to our basic fault finding guide from this link before you begin.
We have purposely not listed any Whirlpool washing machine spares in this article as Whirlpool spares can be very expensive and especially so for the Dreamspace range of washing machines. Please ensure that you order the correct spare part by contacting us with the 12NC code from the washing machine (you will find this on the rating plate) to make sure you ge tthe correct part.
Please, don't guess or assume as spares can be altered on a production run with the same model number having several different alternative components used.

FH |
Washing machine has failed to fill with water No water detected entering machine or pressure switch activation not detected. If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine and then valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed. If the control has turned the water valves on and after 8 minutes the flow meter has detected 10.5 gallons of water passing through it, but has not detected the pressure switch activation then the water valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the error display.
F02 |
Water failed to drain on time If the drain time exceeds eight minutes, the water valves are turned off and the F02 error code is displayed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.
After 4 minutes the “Sud” error will be displayed, then 4 minutes later the F02 error code will be displayed. |
F05 |
Water temperature sensor error If during the water heating step in the wash cycle, the water temperature sensor (NTC) value is out of range, or the heating element circuit has failed, the F05 error code will be displayed.
F06 |
Motor tachometer error The control is unable to properly detect motor speed and the machine will shut down. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes.
F07 |
Motor control unit (MCU) error The Central Control Unit has detected a short in the motor control unit. If a failure occurs during high-speed spin the door will be unlocked after 3 minutes.
F09 |
Washing machine has overfilled with water If the Overflow contact on the pressure switch is Closed for more than 60 seconds an Overflow condition will occur. In an Overflow condition, the Door will remain locked, and the Drain Pump will run constantly, even if PAUSE/CANCEL is pressed twice and the Display is cleared. Unplug the washing machine to service.
F10 |
Washing machine motor control unit (MCU) overheated Motor Control Unit (MCU) heat sink thermal trip If the thermal protector on the MCU heat sink gets too hot, it will open the thermal protector on the heat sink which will stop motor functions and an F10 will be displayed.
F11 |
Communnications error between control cards Serial communication error Communication between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) cannot be sent correctly.
F13 |
Dispenser circuit error If the dispenser motor is not able to be driven to it’s proper position.
F14 |
EEPROM error The Central Control Unit (CCU) receives it’s data from an EEPROM onboard the CCU. If there is an error reading this data it will cause this error.
F15 |
Motor control unit error If the MCU detects multiple resets or errors during a wash cycle it will go into this error mode.
Sud |
Suds lock detected - Washing machine overdosed The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If “Sud” is displayed a potential suds lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.
If too much detergent was used, run the unit through a Rinse/ Spin cycle then a Normal cycle without adding any detergent. This should clear the unit of the excess detergent. |
FdL |
Door lock error when locking the washing machine door A door lock error occurs if the door cannot be locked. It will try to lock it 6 times before displaying the error.
FdU |
Door lock error when unlocking the washing machine door A Door unlock error occurs if the door cannot be unlocked. It will try to unlock the door 6 times before displaying the error.

Should you need more help and guidance please use the links from this article as most of them will help you to understand your Whirlpool washing machine a lot better and probably very much help you in diagnosing the fault you have. Of course there are many other articles on the site that will also help you do this.
In addition you can post in our help and advice forums after registering but please do pay heed to the information below before doing so and read the guides, they are there to help you.
You must understand certain things before you begin or attempt any repairs on your own and we want to make these points very, very clear to anyone that decides to investigate one of these or any other washing machines:
Please do note that manufacturers can and do change fault codes without notice and we cannot guarantee that these error codes will apply to your particular model as all codes apply to a wide range of appliances and not normally any one specific model. To determine if these fault codes do apply to your particular Whirlpool washing machine model please post a request to confirm this in the washing machine forum.
Buying spare parts for any washing machine or getting a service engineer can range from the simplest task in the world to one of the most daunting as you try to pick your way through model numbers, serial numbers, ranges and all sorts of information. We try to make this as simple as possible for you and take out any hassle but, sometimes, we know that we all need a little help from the experts.
