Bosch, Neff & Siemens Dishwasher Recall Notice July 2011

The following notice has been issued by the manufacturer:

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE: POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD

Owners of the following Bosch, Neff and Siemens dishwashers please act on this safety notice

Our quality control department has identified that an electrical component on a limited number of Bosch, Neff and Siemens branded dishwashers may overheat and in very rare cases cause a potential fire hazard. We are committed to the highest standards of safety and quality. As a responsible manufacturer we are voluntarily undertaking a free in-home repair programme of affected dishwashers which were manufactured between 1999 and early 2005. The affected dishwashers are certain models in the batch number range from FD 7901 to FD 8504 (see explanation below). Dishwashers which are outside the above batch number range are not affected.

The appliance details can be found either engraved on the top or on a sticker on the left hand side of the inner part of the door (see pictures below).

Bosch dishwasher recall information

To identify if you are the owner of one of the affected dishwashers, please do the following:

1. Go to your dishwasher and get your model details and batch number.
2. Check whether your batch number range lies within FD 7901 to FD 8504 – if not, you are not affected by this safety notice.
3. If your batch number falls within this range, please visit our website at www.repairaction.co.uk and enter your model number together with your batch number to verify whether your particular dishwasher is affected. From here you will be able to arrange your free of charge repair immediately.
4. Alternatively, contact our call centre on freephone 0800 561 0082. Opening hours are Mon – Fri 7am to 12pm (midnight) and Sat – Sun 8am to 8pm.

This safety notice does not affect any other Bosch, Neff and Siemens branded appliances.

I have had a dishwasherE-Nr,Batch Number-FD8406 for sevaral years without any trouble. It is used daily, never left alone or during the night..I have read all these comments and am loath to risk having it fixed unnecesarily!Am I foolish?

Hey Jeanette, there have been a couple of issues with the repairs, due to a faulty part shipment. I'm a previous employee of the company contracted to fix the issue.
I DO recommend you get it done, the fault is mainly related to age, as the machine gets older, the part gets less safe, until it eventually shorts, whilst you have one of the newer affected models and it should be ok for a while, it will eventually need upgrading. Most upgrade problems can be solved by resetting the machine (3 underlines buttons)

I was unaware of this possible fault on my Bosch dishwasher. Two weeks ago, the dishwasher caught fire. I managed to get out with my children but there is extensive smoke damage to my house. We don't know if the dishwasher is one of the affected ones - we can no longer tell from what is left of it but certainly it was bought between those dates. PLEASE, PLEASE if your dishwasher is one of the affected ones, get it checked and fixed and DON'T leave appliances on overnight. We were very very lucky to get out and the aftermath of the fire has been awful.

Had engineer round yesterday to replace the part. He told me they are replacing 300,000 parts because of one appliance that caused a fire in Ireland. And guess what... now my dishwasher doesn't work anymore. I have been an hour on the phone this morning trying to sort it out but they can't get and engineer to fix it for 2 WEEKS - despite the fact that it was one of their engineers who broke it.

After several letters I reluctantly let an engineer round to replace this "faulty part". He said there has been one fire in Ireland caused by this part. I was told it would take 40 minutes to do, but he was in and out in 20. Now my dishwasher does not work, the blades have stopped spinning, and I can't get an appointment to have it fixed for 2 WEEKS, plus its taken me an hour on the phone this morning since 8 am trying to sort it out.
