Dishwasher Causing Mechanical Scratching On Plates

These type of scratch marks will normally appear at random on the surface of the china.

This problem is not caused by a fault on your dishwasher and no repair or sercvice will be able to resolve this issue for you, please see the notes below on how to prevent and avoid this problem.

Usually the result of:

Allowing china to touch in the dishwasher
Careless handling when loading or unloading the dishwasher
Sliding plates over each other when stacking them

Cause & Prevention

CAUSE

Mechanical scratching may be caused by general poor handling and often is, when loading and unloading the dishwasher.

It can occur while stacking the china.

It can also occur, especially with cups, by placing the china too close together in the dishwasher so that any movement caused by the force of the water spray or vibration of the basket results in the china rubbing together.

Treatment

The damage is irreversible and cannot be treated.

Prevention

Ensure that china items do not touch each other while loading and unloading your dishwasher or when in the basket.

Do not place plates horizontally over each other.
