Samsung has updated its Smart Hub American style side by side fridge freezers with better sound and a voice assistant. Why?
Does anyone buy these things? And if they do, why?
They are ludicrously expensive and in our view serve little purpose, the actual workings of the fridge differ not a lot if at all from a normal one other than a screen embedded into the door and well, you could get a tablet, a wall mount and have more functionality at a far, far lower price.
Maybe people think it looks cool.
Or maybe it's just a marketing gimmick from Samsung to scream out, "Look what we can do!".
Or perhaps, nobody can come up with some kind of better evolution of the humble domestic fridge.
We suspect the latter and despite this being about to talk to Samsung's smart hub thingy (which is restrictive), have a better sound (like from a fridge, why!!??) or being able to talk to Samsung's Bixby digital assistant (think, Alexa but not as good) we really fail to see any point in this.
