The Sunday Mirror reports yesterday that another instance of a Candy washing machine "exploding" has come to light after. We reported the story in November 2010 and since then we have heard of several other reports of similar failures happening on other Candy and Hoover washing machines.

After the story from the end of last week we have now also heard of Candy "Go" washing machines also "exploding". Unfortunately for Candy Hoover, this happened in a German test lab and then reports of such incidents started to come in from the field.

This failure was highlighted by a German television show after the failures in the field and authorities in Germany appear to be taking the risk to users very seriously.

Candy has warned that certain combined dishwasher, oven and hob appliances in its Trio range may pose a fire risk.

In an official safety warning the company says: 'Although the risk is very small, we have become aware and are concerned that an extremely low probability exists of overheating of a wiring harness which could, in rare cases, result in fire'.

The Sun has today reported, in its usual dramatic style, that a six year old boy was almost injured by one of the now famous exploding Candy Hoover washing machines that we reported on some time ago.

Candy-Hoover, the owners of the former Hoover manufacturing site in Merthyr, which ceased production last year, are in discussions with a number of property development companies over a land sale.

Italian-owned Candy Hoover, closed its non-profit-making manufacturing facility at the 40-acre site with the loss more than 300 jobs last spring.

However, there remains a warehouse and after-sales and corporate HQ operations employing around 130.

You may have seen the recent news items and photographs of the failing Candy and Hoover washing machines which are, to be blunt, quite spectacular in the way that they are failing.

Obviously Trading Standards are investigating this sort of failure but, in the meantime, please feast your eyes on the carnage caused to these machines.

Reports in the Italian press seem to indicate that Candy is shaking up it's brands in a bid to cut costs. The rationalisation is to put the Candy house in order and to unit the businesses of the appliance ones under the same roof and to eliminate duplications of structure.
