Three suppliers are to invest £16m in new production at, or near, a Hotpoint washing machine factory at Kinmel Park, north Wales, operated by Merloni Elettrodomestici of Italy. The move will create 200 jobs, safeguard more than 800 and increase the frequency with which the factory produces a new washing machine from 38 to 14 seconds. Output will rise from 790,000 to 1m units a year. Merloni, the UK's biggest washing machine manufacturer, said this would make Kinmel Park the most productive builder of the appliances in the country.
Technoplast, an Italian-owned business which makes injection-moulded plastic components, will spend £10.5m in setting up a production unit at Kinmel Park which will employ 133. Pasell, which supplies counterweights, will spend £5m, and Tuscarora, a packaging specialist, will invest just under £1m. The investments are supported with a regional selective assistance grant from the Welsh Development Agency.
