Founded in 1847, Siemens started producing vacuum cleaners and small appliances, it wasn't until 1932 that they produced their first washing machine. In 1964 Siemens started producing dishwashers then they alos produced the first pyrolitic self cleaning oven in 1970 and the first condenser dryer in 1976.

For some years now Siemens has been owned by the Bosch Group which became the Bosch Siemens Group or, BSH when the companies merged in 1967.

  Siemens Retail Position

Siemens has traditionally been an upmarket brand and this is reflected in the pricing of the products and they tend to focus on good build quality coupled with interesting and, sometimes, innovative, designs. The "Porche" small appliance range was one such example as is the new wall mounted "Lift-O-Matic" oven about which little is known other than the name strikes us as a bit cheesy for such a supposed upmarket product.

Some Siemens products are still German made however and do tend to be higher rated by the trade than the run of the mill Bosch machines. This is however reflected in the price.

It should also be noted that there is a large commonality in components used with the much cheaper range of Bosch prodcuts.

  Siemens Spares

Don't expect any genuine Siemens spares needed to be cheap because they're not!

In line with other German marques spares can be frighteningly expensive with some control boards and motors being truly ludicrous in price as well as some now reportedly requiring special programming that can only be carried out by BSH Service.

The only good news is that, as many of the parts are common to other Bosch products (yes, they use the same components it's often just the cosmetics that alter) on both the Bosch and Neff brands, there are a number of cheap compatible spares available for Siemens appliances. Many of these we do stock and are available in our online spares store.

For any spares that need ordered for any Siemens appliance you will need two key pieces of information or you are unlikely to get anywhere, the applaince model number and the FD or ENR number that is printed on the rating plate. These can be absolutely vital in tracking down the correct spares you need.

  Siemens Servicing & Repairs

Service is carried out by the BSH Group's own engineering force and so little is known of initial teething problems however the products do appear to be pretty robust and seem to last. However there has been some movement downwards on pricing to remain competitive and whether this will affect long term durability is, as yet, unknown.

Many of the newer products are rumoured to have electronics that can only be replaced by Bosch engineers and cannot be replaced on a DIY basis or by independent engineers. This being the case you will be forced to call Bosch on those products and pay up whatever is demanded.

Most of the independents can and will repair Siemens or any other BSH Group applainces and you can search for an approved engineer using our free engineer search facility. Normally the independents will repair Siemens machine much cheaper than Bosch direct.

Please do not use the comments below to ask for technical help or fault advice on any Siemens appliance as the engineers will not see the request here. Please use the forums where much more help will be available and is a completely free service.
