Hotpoint dishwasher error codes and spare partsThis series of Hotpoint integrated dishwashers was manufactured by Smeg and, as such, these fault codes will also relate to some Smeg dishwashers as well.

Please see this article and this article as well.

Hotpoint BF Series Dishwasher Fault Codes

Depending on the version of the dishwasher these codes will be displayed as a series of flashing lights on the control panel of the dishwasher, for any other codes not listed it's odd but you can ask in the forums anyway and we'll try to help you.

Where there is an * next to the lamp number it means that this light is flashing.

E1

Light No.1*+5 Flood protection system activated

E2

Light No.2*+5 Safety pressure switch activated

E3

Light No.1+2*+5 No heat in time allowed

E4

Light No.3*+5 Temperature sensor fault

E5

Light No.1+3*+5 No fill

E6

Light No.2+3*+5 No drain in time allowed

E7

Light No.1+2+3* Flow meter detected when not fitted, reset required

E9

Light No.1*+5 Same as E1 fault code

You have to understand certain things before you begin and we want to make these points clear to anyone that decides to investigate one of these dishwashers on their own:

  • We are not responsible for your safety, you are and by using this guide you accept that and accept that any damage that you may cause and work undertaken is entirely at your own risk.
  • We will advise the common causes of the fault codes but we cannot guarantee that any parts or work recommended will resolve the issue. It is entirely your responsibility to diagnose your particular problem and resolve it.
  • We are not responsible for you buying spares that do not resolve the problem, this is down to your own diagnosis not ours.
  • No warranty is inferred, implied or given.

You also have to understand that these dishwasher fault or error codes are not a "magic bullet", they will not tell you what the problem is, they will only offer you an indication of where the problem lies and they are no substitute for good old fashioned diagnostic skills. You can find out more about what fault codes actually tell you in this article. So please be well aware that, even with this new found knowledge you will still have to actually be capable of investigating and diagnosing the problem and this means adhering to basic appliance safety for working on them.

Please also note that manufacturers can and do change fault codes without notice and we cannot guarantee that these error codes will apply to your particular model as all codes apply to a wide range of appliances and not normally any one specific model. To determine if these fault codes do apply to your particular dishwasher model please post a request to confirm this in the forums.

Hello,

Would you know what the fault is when lights 5 and 7 are flashing.

Many thanks, Caroline.

Sorry Caroline we have no idea and no access to Hotpoint technical information as they do not allow it as a company policy. However if you as in the forums some of the technicians there do have access and will help you if they can.
