Bosch WFP Fault Codes

Bosch washing machine error codes and spare parts

There are a number of different version of the electronics used in Bosch Group made washing machines and washer dryers that are sold as Bosch, Siemens and Neff and most of them use the different fault or error codes when they have a problem or a spare part fails. This particular article relates only to the WFO range, if the Bosch washing machine fault code you need is for a washing machine that has a model number starting with "WFO" then these should be the ones you are looking for. If your model number does not start with WFO you may not be able to use these codes or assume that they will be correct.

These fault codes can be displayed in a few different ways but, in the main there's two basic formats. The error code is displayed as a digital code, exactly as you will see below, in an LED or LCD panel or display on the front of the washing machine or washer dryer or, you will get a blinking or flashing light on the front of the washing machine. If it is the latter then you will see a pattern to the flashes if you look closely it will be a series of rapid flashes followed by a pause and then the series of flashes will be repeated, this is the error code being displayed. If you count the number of flashes being given then you use that number to correspond to the fault code, for example, eleven flashes would be fault code F11.

Before you start any investigation of the fault or even remove the lid of the washing machine or washer dryer please read and fully understand this article in full and pay particular attention to the safety and information notices at the bottom of this page as they contain extremely important information!

Please remember to support our site by buying Bosch washing machine spares from our spare part store and, if you decide that you really need an engineer please support the local repairers that help make this site possible, you can search for a repairer from the link below.

  Reset The Washing Machine

For most BSH produced washing machines the reset procedure appears to be much the same and is carried out by following the steps as follows in order:

  • Turn the program dial to the off or reset position (should be at the 12 o’clock position)
  • Turn the dial to the 6 o’clock position
  • Press and hold down on the spin button and simultaneously turn the dial to the 7 o’clock position.
  • Hold the spin button for around 5 seconds and then release.
  • Turn the dial to the off position

Once the machine is powered up again the error should be reset or cleared.

If the same code comes up once again then there will be a problem of some kind that will require further investigation, diagnosis and any fault resolved. If you require further assistance to diagnose a problem with your washing machine please use the forums for that.

Bosch WFP Washing Machine Fault Codes

These fault codes are written for washing machine repairers and not for the general public by Bosch and they assume a certain level of competence on the part of the user in diagnostic routines. We have added some notes to try to assist you in determining the nature of the fault you have but, you will still need to investigate each failure on its own merits. For more help and advice on fault finding on a washing machine please refer to our washing machine fault finding guide from this link before you begin.

Please check that any Bosch washing machine spares recommended are suitable for use on your particular model and ENR code. If you are unsure about the suitability of any spare part please ask to ensure that you get the correct spares for your washing machine. Please, don't guess or assume as spares can be altered on a production run with the same model number having several different alternative components used.

F01

  • Water intake timeout
  • Faulty Aquastop fill hose
  • Water tap closed
  • Filters blocked
  • Water pressure low
  • Program halts and can be restarted

As you can see this first error code relates to the water inlet system and the machine has detected that, for one of the reasons above, that the washing machine cannot fill.

F02

  • Heating timeout
  • Wash temperature not reached
  • Defective heater or wiring
  • Program aborted, fatal error

This error essentially tells you that there is a fault on the heating circuit and to investigate the possible causes given above. The most common cause however will be the water heater in the washing machine which you can find here along with a link to a low cost alternative spare part as well.

F03

  • Draining timeout
  • Has not reached level over 1
  • Blocked sensor (pressure switch)
  • Pressure switch fault
  • Faulty or blocked drain pump
  • Program aborted, fatal error

As is very often the case, fault code three, in this case E03, is a drain error and the first port of call should always be to check the drain pump filter before anything else is investigated. If the filter is clear the next most likely cause of this fault code being displayed is a faulty drain pump, you can find a cheap compatible drain pump here with links to other options as well.

F04

  • Motor fault (No tacho signal)
  • Program has finished but motor did not start
  • Motor attempts to start until the end of the program

This error code is very likely signalling that there is a fault on the motor, very possibly a motor winding is open circuit. Motors are expensive, make sure you are 100% certain that the motor is faulty before ordering one.

F05

  • Uncontrolled motor startup
  • High resistance connections (Carbons faulty)
  • Motor spins uncontrolled or motor plug not connected
  • Program aborted

Usually when this error is seen it will be the motor carbon brushes that are faulty. Thankfully there are a cheap set of carbon brushes available here along with a video showing how to change them if this is the case.

F06

  • Short on NTC Detected on hot water intake
  • Any heating phase
  • Program aborted, fatal error except on cold only wash

An NTC problem which is the thermistor that detects the temperature of the water in the washing machine. The thermistors do fail on these machines occasionally and you can find the most common replacement thermistor from this link.

F07

  • Open circuit NTC Open circuit wiring
  • Faulty NTC
  • Program aborted, fatal error except on cold only wash

Again, an error code that points towards an NTC problem which is the thermistor that detects the temperature of the water in the washing machine and the link for the part is above.

F08

Door open when program started
Door LED will flash Restart possible

This fault code is normally a very easy fault to cure, close the door!

If that doesn't work it could indicate a problem with the door lock or door latch but more likely the door locking mechanism, which is here.

F09

  • Unexpected heating
  • At approx. 95/100°C program is aborted

This code is again liable to be a fault with the NTC thermistor but it cannot be guaranteed that is the cause.

F10

  • Communication error
  • In main program after 11 minutes In test after 1.5 minutes
  • Failed communications between the motor and control PCBs
  • Program aborted, fatal error

This error code is really bad news, call an engineer of find one now from this link.

F11

  • Overheating
  • Heat sink or motor control PCB
  • Fault detected eight times
  • Primary cause is overloading the machine will be sluggish or stiff
  • Displayed in test only
  • Program continues

Possibly the NTC thermistor when you see this fault code, if you're lucky. But, this one is a bit tougher and again, we'd urge you not to DIY this fault and look for an engineer.

F12

  • Short circuit
  • Motor faulty
  • Free running diode faulty
  • Fault detected eight times Program aborted, fatal error

As above, look for an engineer.

F13

  • Mains voltage too high
  • Greater than 318V
  • Motor is switched off and program continues
  • Displayed only in test

This error code indicates a fault with the mains supply and you may require an electrician to look at your home's electrical supply.

F14

  • Mains voltage too low
  • Less than 172V
  • Motor is switched off and program continues
  • Displayed only in test

As above, this fault code indicates a fault with the mains supply and you may require an electrician to look at your home's electrical supply.

F15

  • Faulty temperature sensor on motor PCB
  • Sensor defect if temperature is less than 10°C or greater than 127°C
  • Displayed only in test
  • F16 Faulty rinse sensor Displayed only in test

You should never see this fault code and, if you do then you will require the service of an washing machine engineer.

  More Bosch Washing Machine Help

Should you need more help and guidance please use the links from this article as most of them will help you to understand your Hotpoint or Indesit washing machine or washer dryer a lot better and probably very much help you in diagnosing the fault you have. Of course there are many other articles on the site that will also help you do this.

In addition you can post in our washing machine forums after registering but please do pay heed to the information below before doing so and read the guides, they are there to help you.

You must understand certain things before you begin or attempt any repairs on your own and we want to make these points very, very clear to anyone that decides to investigate one of these or any other washing machines:

  • We are not responsible for your safety, you are and by using this guide you accept that and accept that any damage that you may cause and work undertaken is entirely at your own risk.
  • We will advise the common causes of the fault codes but we cannot guarantee that any parts or work recommended will resolve the issue. It is entirely your responsibility to diagnose your particular problem and resolve it.
  • We are not responsible for you buying spares that do not resolve the problem, this is down to your own diagnosis not ours.
  • No warranty is inferred, implied or given.

You also have to be aware that fault or error codes are not a "magic bullet", they will not tell you what the problem is, they will only offer you an indication of where the problem lies and they are no substitute for good old fashioned diagnostic skills. You can find out more about what fault codes actually tell you in this article. So please be well aware that, even with this new found knowledge you will still have to actually be capable of investigating and diagnosing the problem and this means adhering to basic appliance safety for working on them.

Please do note that manufacturers can and do change fault codes without notice and we cannot guarantee that these error codes will apply to your particular model as all codes apply to a wide range of appliances and not normally any one specific model. To determine if these fault codes do apply to your particular Bosch washing machine model please post a request to confirm this in the forums.
