We often see the question get asked to explain what causes a Bosch dishwasher to stop with one minute left or display the E01 (E:01 as shown below), 01, 1 0r -1 error, here we explain what it is and what to check on your Bosch dishwasher.

Bosch dishwasher 01 error, the dishwasher stops on the program with a minute leftThere is no magic bullet here, it's a case of being able to investigate and diagnose what has caused the error code to be displayed and determine the reason through logical fault diagnosis. This requires some patience on your part and knowledge of how to test the various components and reasons.

If you are unsure in any way, use our engineer search to find a local Bosch dishwasher engineer to repair your dishwasher for you. Don't guess at the problem as your chances of getting it right are low.

Do not work or test the dishwasher whilst the power is on and the dishwasher plugged in. Stay safe and alive by ensuring that the power is off totally by removing the plug from the wall socket before commencing any work or investigation to diagnose the problem.

  Dishwasher Fill Timeout

This error can mean that the filling of the dishwasher has timed out and this can be caused by a number of different components being failed or simply blocked.

  • Check water inlet valve
  • Check water supply
  • Check water inlet valve filter
  • Check water inlet hose for kinks restricting the water flow
  • Check water filters in the fill hose if fitted

  Water Fill System Blocked

There is a water management system fitted to almost all Bosch dishwashers (as well as Neff and Siemens and most others) that is mounted behind the left hand side panel of the dishwasher looking from the front to the back of the dishwasher.

This system can become blocked with all manner of debris and dirt and, if it gets blocked it can cause equally as many faults to appear. Cleaning this out can cure the problem but, if it is badly gunked up it will need replaced.

  Drain Timeout

This can be caused by a failed drain pump as well as a blockage in the outlet hose or something obstruction the drain pump.

  • Check drain pump for blockage or obstruction
  • Check drain pump operation
  • Check outlet hose for blockage
  • Check all hoses from pump for blockage or obstruction

  Wash Heater Element Fault

If the heating element in the dishwasher is actually faulty and the water is not heating then the wash results will be poor, which could be a giveaway or clue to the problem. In any event you are advised to do the following:

  • Check the wash heater element for continuity
  • Check the heating element for earth leakage

  Anti-Flood Device Tripped

This is a float in the base of the dishwasher and, for some reason it has been tripped, normally this will be due to a leak into the base, the float rises and the switch is activated and then the dishwasher will present the error.

If this is the case you need to find out what's leaking in the dishwasher and solve that problem.

  Turbidity Sensor

On some Bosch, Neff and Siemens dishwashers there is what is known as a turbidity sensor fitted but, this is not used on all dishwasher models and tends only to be fitted to higher specification dishwashers.

It is an infra red sensor in the sump that reads the turbidity or, level of cloudiness in the water if you like, to determine if the dishes are clean and all the detergent is clear.

Checking this is best left to a professional repairer.

Other Dishwashers With The Same Error Code

This error also can affect other dishwasher models made by Bosch including those from sibling brands Neff and Siemens as much of the platforms used are commonly shared by all three brands. It will also apply to built in or integrated dishwashers.
