Plastic items become discoloured and exhibit a yellow or brown appearance often blamed on a dishwasher not cleaning properly.
This is not a problem that is a result of a fault with your dishwasher
Please see the notes below on how to avoid this problem.
Usually the result of:
- Age of the plastic
- Plastic items that are not dishwasher safe
- Iron in the water supply to the dishwasher
Cause & Prevention
Many plastic items will go yellow/brown with age or a continual exposure to heat.
Yellow/brown discolouration can also be caused by the presence of iron in the water supply.
There is no treatment to reverse the damage.
Only use plastic items that are clearly dishwasher safe.
Investigate the water quality with your local water authority.
