Patches of pink or pink stains on children's clothing when washed in a washing machine

Pink patches mainly on children's clothing, especially bibs after being washed in a washing machine.

This is not an issue that is caused by a problem with your washing machine and a service visit will not be able to solve the issue.

Bleaching is sometimes successful, but should only be used on white cotton fabrics

Cause & Prevention

Teething preparations and colic treatments may contain an ingredient called phenolphthalein which is usually colourless. However, in the presence of washing solution this ingredient will turn pink. This will only become obvious after washing and if a child has dribbled after using these treatments.

Rinse garments in cold water before washing if you suspect a child may have dribbled after using these treatments.
